Podcast Study
Podcast One: Slate- The Cultural Gapfest
I found this podcast show rather serendipitously. In my search to find an Political Podcast that suited my taste, I stumbled upon this very intellectual pop culture show. One of the topics of the most recently released episodes discussed the Mad Men season primer. I'm a huge fan of the show, not because it has great drama plot lines and breath taking 50's era costumes. My favorite thing about the show which is discussed in detail in this podcast is the very real way the creators of the Mad Men showcase what culturally is going on in America at the time. In past seasons women's rights, gay rights and sexuality have all been in the for front and in the back drop of the 50's makes these very modern issues seem even more interesting and powerful to today's viewers. Many critics of the show have stated that Mad Men hasn't discussed African American civil rights issues, but with the show finally getting to the mid to late 60's and the civil rights movement finally in full swing, the show is now posed to tackle this historic period of time in American history. The podcast is very straight forward fitting the medium, there was very brief clips of the Prerimer on key moments but it wasn't to styled or heavily edited. In the beginning the host of the show's cell phone goes off which shows that even though very dense topics was discuses, this podcast is mostly about pop culture so I figured Slate and the host of the show wanted it be rather relaxed.
Podcast 2: Real Men Real Style- History of Menswear
http://www.realmenrealstyle.com/history-and-menswear/
This rather no-frills podcast hosted by online blogger and marketer Antonio Centeno talked about the history of mens wear in this particular episode. Mr Centeno has made a career out of disusing men style and what is discussed most in this history lesson was the origins of many "rules" that men follow today when dressing themselves. Mr. Centeno and his guess are former military and they go on a great deal about how most staples of men's clothing are direct decedents from the military uniform. Citing the trench coat, racing stripes, and even the modern day suit it self as all decedents from the military uniform. I love how something as so mundane as the history of mens fashion, was full verbalized in a hour long audio show. The style of the podcast is a basic interview but you fell that Mr. Centeno and his guests really vibes off each other in shared experiences to showcase this very interesting history.
Podcast 3: Duck Tape Marketing: Interview with Gary Vaynerchuck

This rather popular Small Business blog/podcast in August 2009, featured one of my favorite business gurus Gary Vaynerchuck, The beginning of the podcast had a very professionally sounding introduction with the simple theme music. But from the start it hard not to notice the poor sound quality coming from Gary's microphone. The interview was very insightful in the careers of both men. But almost like a political stump speak the rhetoric was heard before, expectantly on the part of Mr. Vaynerchuck. All in all the interview was successful in portraying very cutting edge ideas going in Marketing i.e social media. But it was all heard before and there wasn't much changeling from the interviewer on these ideas.

ROUGH DRAFT
With the growing tension in congress to do something proactive on the issue of jobs, on March 21 the proposed JOBSAct hit the Senate floor with much fan fair. As I read my twitter feed it was littered with postings of hope and opportunity that can stem from such a bill. Most of this praise has been coming from Silicon Valley types who are finally getting validated by Washington D.C with this rather hefty bill. Sounds great right? Our most innovative companies in the country are finally getting a little help from the government, the bill cost the taxpayers nothing and will not add a cent to the growing deficit. Every one wins!
As you can tell with my sarcasm I'm not completely convened that this is what small business need expeally tech stocks which are recveing huge amount of attention from Wall Street in there money makeing potental. Facebook is expected to be the biggest and highest priced IPO to be introduced to the floor in history. Platforms like Linkin and Angies List have debuted extremely strong, making it all but certain Twitter and the like will follow to the ranks of IPO. So why am I worried?
The JOBSAct which has the support of the Obama Admistration and the support of House Republicans is very de-regulatory in many ways. One way which is by far has the gotten the most attention is the idea of crowd fund rasieing. This technique has been used by Silicon Valley since the dot.com boom in the late 90's and made really famous by the Obama presidential campaign with his grassroots small funding that gave him a huge edge over John McCain. This bill will de-regulate this prossess, now if you want to invest into a company over a certian amount it is illigal to do so if the investor is acceded. What this bill does now makes it possible for everyday people to invest upwards to 10,000 dollars or 10% of there income to a given company. Pretty cool right? and it is with more possibilities for small busisness to gain bigger funding it will be easier for some companies to start hiring or continue to hire.
What is not so new or "cool" is the new IPO aspect to this bill. The JOBSAct if passed wants to put into place an "new kind on the block" exception for new IPO's. The bill will make it optional for companies making less than 1 billion dollars to not disclose its records for the first 5 years of it's IPO filing. Supporters of the bill say it will save new companies money and time and hopefully they can hire more people with the money they save....

Who, What and Where....
I have a dream list of high profile entrepreneurs that I personally have looked up to in the past years, I plan on a all out assault in trying to get into contact with these people to get there perspective on how young small busses owners and up and coming entrepreneurs are faring in this country and economy. I do want to ask what government policies they wish President Obama or Congress should put int place to help entrepreneurs if any. My dream list includes (no particular order)
Timothy Ferriss- Author of the 4-hour Work Week/ 4-Hour Body, Business Guru
Gary Vandrchuck- Tech guru, Author of The Thank You Economy
Tobi Lutke- CEO of Shopify
Joel Simkhai-CEO of Grindr
Nathan Jurewicz- Real Estate Guru 'Short Sale Kid"
This isn't a complete list, and many of these people on there blogs and websites have links to other small business that I try to contact. The goal being really is to just reach out to this sub-culture from the top down to get an consists on what they fell on the future of entrepreneurship in America.
My Questions will include (but not limited to)
At what time in your life you felt confident enough to start your own businesses?
What breaks in beginner funding did you receive and how did you invest it?
How many business would you say you currently operate?
Given the political climate, what do you believe President Obama is not doing to make your life easier?
Do you agree with the Presidents Budget released earlier in the year?
How would you make your home state and the country a hot bed for budding small businesses much like Silicon Valley or Wall Street?
Where do you see the country in 15 years in terms of growth within small business jobs?
Do you think if you started your first venture today would it be easier or harder?
Do you outsource any aspect outside the country? If so where?
What would you tell college students about to graduate how to tackle the thankless task of starting a business?
Are you hiring?
This again is just a rough list of questions that I hope could lead to a conversation on future small busses and how they can make a huge change in unemployment in this country, especially for my generation.

The Millennial Entrepreneur (working title)
With America seeing slight glimpses of light the end of the dark tunnel that was the Great Recession. President Obama with his most recent budget proposal has place his investments in infrastructure and higher education nationwide to plant the seeds of a robust economy later. Another area of interest if the Obama White house has been in small business and how they need to be elevated to not only surviving in a much more global economy but creating jobs and and growing to aid the country. My generation has bore the huge weight of the burden with the lack of jobs even with degrees from very respected insituions. Since the track of susses buy American standards has been broken if not destroyed. So how is the Millennial generation adjusting to this fundamental need. Many are creating there jobs. I want to profile and interview 4-5 young entrepreneurs and ask questions on why there doing what there doing, what was there pit falls on there way do establishing there business and if and how the government should aid the economically wounded demographic.
